The host of The Great British Baking Show, or Great British Bake-Off, depending on which country you watch in, Paul Hollywood knows his way around a mixing bowl, a floured countertop, and an oven.

This collection of clearly-written sweet and savory recipes focuses on popular standards with an occasional surprise for bakers looking to step away from the familiar. The recipes skew British (totally the point) with selections such as Victoria sandwich cake, iced finger buns, cheese and onion pasties, and sticky toffee pudding.

But you will also find baguettes, an array of pizzas, the Moroccan flatbread called maneesh, a Thai chicken pie, and even a pecan pie for which the crust is made with both butter and cream cheese (do we hear the sound of eyebrows raising?).

Popular television figures have been known to write perfunctory cookbooks, but this one takes its users seriously, even if many of them will be die-hard fans.
