This thoughtfully provocative retrospective of the 2021 PhotoIreland Festival questions how food is produced and consumed. More than 20 artists are featured, usually with images from their Festival contributions, but just as importantly in essays and conversations with editor Julia Gelezova.
Artists address issues as varied as sustainability and overproduction, the value and power of labor, hospitality and hosting, and the evolving impact of technology on manifold aspects the way people eat and cook.
Authors whose work might normally have to speak for itself have the opportunity to elaborate and reflect on their creative processes. The breadth of perspectives make this a difficult work to quantify, and the fact that it comes from outside the US adds to the complexity of ideas it presents.
